“As collaboration tools become critical infrastructure, the organisations that treat them as platforms — not just utilities — will move faster, govern better, and scale without friction.”

— Stratatech Delivery Team

Convex Insurance is a fast-growing specialty insurer with teams distributed across multiple regions. As the company scaled, so did the complexity of managing internal collaboration. We partnered with Convex to build a serverless admin platform that automates Slack channel provisioning and governance — replacing manual admin tickets with a reliable, auditable workflow.

The Challenge

As Slack usage grew across Convex, so did the operational burden. Business teams relied on manual requests to create and manage channels. Admins faced repetitive, high-volume tasks. There was no consistent, auditable process for who had access to what.

Scaling this model globally would have driven support costs up and introduced compliance risk. Convex needed a lightweight but robust admin platform to orchestrate Slack workspace operations — without spinning up a large and costly internal team to manage it.

Our Approach

We designed and delivered a focused admin backend that treats Slack like the critical business platform it is. Rather than building a heavyweight internal system, we created a lean, event-driven architecture that automates the tedious work and puts governance on autopilot.

What We Delivered

  • Automated Slack lifecycle tasks — create channels, add/remove members, archive and decommission
  • Role-based access control (RBAC) so only authorised admins can make changes
  • Secure API layer for the Tickr admin UI to use globally
  • Logging and monitoring for full visibility into operations and InfoSec compliance

This gave Convex a repeatable, scalable way to manage Slack across the organisation — without building a whole new platform team around it.

How We Built It

We designed the platform with a “security-first” mindset, utilising a fully serverless cloud architecture. This approach eliminates the need for traditional server management, allowing the system to scale automatically from zero to peak demand without incurring idle costs.

The core logic is event-driven, ensuring that every action—from channel creation to member updates—is processed asynchronously and reliably. This ensures the user interface remains snappy even when handling complex backend operations across thousands of users.

Critically, we codified the entire infrastructure, meaning every component, permission, and policy is version-controlled and auditable. Centralised logging gives the InfoSec team complete visibility into platform operations, turning what was once a “shadow IT” concern into a model of corporate governance.

The Results

By moving Slack operations into a serverless, automated backend, Convex transformed how they manage internal collaboration at scale.

Outcomes

  • Channel provisioning and updates now happen in near real-time, not “whenever the ticket gets picked up”
  • Consistent, policy-driven access control across all Slack workspaces
  • Significantly reduced operational load on support and admin teams
  • Architecture ready to scale with future collaboration tools and workflows

Why It Matters

For a fast-growing insurer, internal collaboration tools are as critical as customer-facing systems. Stratatech helped Convex treat Slack like a platform, not a collection of ad hoc channels — with governance, automation and observability built in from day one. The result is a system that scales with the business, not against it.
